One year ago today, I wrote my first article in this newsletter, headlined, “Why The Media Should Be Unapologetically Pro-Democracy,” because I fundamentally believe that it’s the responsibility of journalists to uphold objective reality and help protect democracy from authoritarian threats.

Since then, this newsletter has taken off. In just one year, we’ve grown to over 3,600 subscribers, our articles have reached millions, and our social media posts have garnered 34 million impressions. All of this was made possible by you. Your subscription to this newsletter enables me to do this work, and I’m genuinely grateful for each and every one of you.

On this one-year anniversary, I felt it was important to share some of the key impacts we’ve made together.

The first viral post I published was my Project 2025 explainer last November, which was among the first in-depth explainers about the project at the time. Since then, I’ve published 40 articles analyzing and warning about the threat of Project 2025 and its ties to Donald Trump, including an interview with Stop Project 2025 Task Force head Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA). This content has made a major impact.

My Project 2025 coverage has led to multiple media appearances, including three appearances on MSNBC’s The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle and two appearances on The PoliticsGirl Podcast of the Meidas Touch Network.

I’m proud to have been among the first to spotlight Project 2025, helping to bring its dangers into the national conversation before it became a mainstream issue. This was a collective effort. Countless journalists, researchers, and voters rang the alarm about Project 2025, ultimately prompting Trump to falsely seek to distance himself from it. The term “Project 2025” is now used by the Harris Campaign and other national Democrats to frame the totality of Donald Trump’s extremist agenda.

When it comes to overall reach, my social media posts, which included links to articles from this newsletter, reached over 34 million impressions on Twitter this year alone - all because of your help amplifying this content. Check it out:

I started this newsletter because I believe the media needs more pro-democracy voices contributing to the conversation. When I finished documenting every day of Trump’s presidency in January 2021 at my company, Rantt Media, I had to take a break from the daily content grind. I still had my column in The Independent, but I started to get eager to write more consistently for myself again, especially given the authoritarian threats America faces. So, I created a Substack publication, and I’m so glad I did. This newsletter has reinvigorated my passion for pro-democracy journalism.

Starting this newsletter changed my life in many ways, and I couldn’t be more appreciative of you all for reading and backing this endeavor. The impact we’re making is unmistakable, and we’re just getting started.

With so much at stake in this election, we all have to do our part. I’m going to continue doing this work with a clear-eyed focus on informing Americans. This Disinformation Age requires straightforward journalism that isn’t afraid to forcefully tell the truth. I’ll continue to do my part and keep striving to be a productive voice in our political discourse.
