I went on NewsNation this past weekend and broke down the reality of Trump’s affordability crisis. The moment in the above clip came after my co-panelist claimed the tariffs are working. I responded with the truth. The host then gave my co-panelist a chance to respond, but as you’ll see in the clip, the facts spoke for themselves.
The truth is simple: Trump is about to embark on an “affordability tour” touting an economic agenda that has worsened inflation, sparked job losses, and hurt many of the very voters he claims to champion. Trump’s message of denialism isn’t going to land the way he thinks it will.
The latest delayed inflation report still shows an annual rate of 2.8%, and ADP reported 32,000 job losses in November. This comes on the heels of the slowest stretch of job growth since the pandemic. Prices remain elevated across the board.
A new Politico poll found that 46% of Americans say the cost of living is the worst in memory, and notably, that includes 37% of Trump voters. Trump’s numbers on the economy are now underwater, and his overall approval has fallen to second-term lows in multiple polls.
People don’t need more rallies trying to spin these failures into successes.
They need action.
If Trump was serious about addressing the affordability crisis he is unilaterally worsening, he would roll back his inflationary tariffs that are driving up prices for American families and renew the Obamacare subsidies Republicans are refusing to extend — a refusal that will cause premiums to double for millions.
Unless Trump reverses course, Americans will continue to struggle under rising costs, and the country’s economic outlook will remain clouded with uncertainty.
